Sustainability
We are not only proud of this fantastic spot just outside Dokkum where our holiday park is located; we also like to take care of this place and the planet we live on. That is why we focus on a fossil-free future, by working on sustainability now.
You will find sustainability in the accommodation, on our grounds and in the air. After all, we are located under one of the darkest skies in the Netherlands. Not for nothing is the Lauwersmeer, fifteen minutes’ drive from here, Dark Sky Park. Sustainability puts us with both feet on the ground. Because if we do nothing now, our future is going to look different from what we wish. We therefore try to find a balance between pleasure, comfort, quality and sustainability for you as a guest.
New accommodation at Vakantiepark de Schreiershoek will be built with a focus on the future, using sustainable FSC wood, high-quality insulation, environmentally-friendly materials and fossil-free installations. The existing older holiday homes are slowly being converted to renewable energy. All buildings on the park are equipped with a number of solar panels for energy recovery.
The grey water ends up in an IBA system; a biodegradable treatment system. IBA stands for Individual Treatment of Waste Water. As a result, Schreiershoek Recreation is independent of the municipal sewer system and has its own purification system.
The sun is a very important power of the houses. This produces 75% of hot water and electricity. In summer, the sun is the heating. As all the glass facades face south, this provides enough heat in the house. Infrared, heat pumps and underfloor heating are therefore only needed in the cold months.
The Pavilion also keeps an eye on balance and biodiversity by consciously looking at certain products on the menu. Here you can think of sourcing meat and fish from local entrepreneurs and more vegetable than meat dishes. Having our own vegetable garden was a dream and has now become a reality. So we get our inspiration, vegetables and herbs from our own garden as much as possible!
