This is The Schreiershoek

Long ago, where you now holiday at Dokkum, there was nothing but water and landscape. Dokkum was a small fortified town within the bulwarks. Dokkum was also an important trading town for the north. Its open connection to the Wadden Sea contributed to this. Holiday park de Schreiershoek is located on the former estuary.

The name ‘Schreiershoek’ dates back to when Dokkum was located on the open sea. The first bend from the town here on the water was the perfect place for women and children to wave off or wait for their husbands and fathers, in their journey at sea. Schreien, or weeping they did in the process. ‘Schrei’ also means ‘crooked corner’.

If you walk, cycle or sail towards Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen now, you can see the old sea dykes in the landscape on either side of the water. It is the image that shipmen must have seen before them in the past. Not knowing what they would find at sea this time, whether they would return in one piece and certainly not with a holiday (park) in prospect!

Holiday park de Schreiershoek began as a mini-camping site in 1990. A small toilet block, one electricity point and saplings on the site. The little trees proudly towering above the accommodations, Vakantiepark de Schreiershoek has grown into a fully-fledged and sustainable park where we think of you personally and of the future.

Welcome to the holiday park of Dokkum, fortified town of the Wadden Sea.
